Poetic Space. C-prints, dimensions variable, 2013 - 2014
Each successive dwelling has its influence, and each inhabitant leaves his or her mark. Forgotten objects discovered in the attic or in a closed drawer speak to the different lives lived in and lived by a home. In these photographs, I build on these potential narratives by composing details from bodies (skin, hair, clothing) with the structure’s architectural identity (peeling paint, tiles, reflection, shadow). The title of the series is inspired by Gaston Bachelard's book The Poetics of Space and his reflections on architecture as a lived experience and the metaphorical significance of the elements that make up the spaces we live in.
